The Sounds Of Summer Day 15 of 95. “When Doves Cry”-Prince. A little departure from the formula- up until now I have featured songs that are summer related this isn’t. What is the song of the summer of 2019? I would have no idea- I don’t listen to pop radio anymore- If I looked at the current Top 40 I wonder If I have even heard one of the singles on it. I do know that the song of the summer of 1984 had to be Prince’s “When Doves Cry.”- It was #1 for 5 weeks in a row that summer- from July 7, 1984 to August 4, 1984. One of the qualifications to me to be the “Song of A Summer” is the song should be great- and not only was Prince’s “When Doves Cry” extremely popular- it would end up being the #1 single on the Billboard charts for 1984- it was also a great, great single- as great as it was popular. Prince at his peak. It was on the Purple Rain soundtrack. Rolling Stone ranks it at 52 in their 500 Greatest Songs Ever list. When Prince died in 2016- it re-entered the chart peaking at #8- and this was 32 years after it was originally a hit.
My go-too tape when on the road back then. Wonderful memories from the Purple One!
That was a great one- planning on listening to Purple Rain today.
Prince: a beautiful man, a beautiful poet, a wonderful musician. Why does the demon drugs take so many good ones.
In his case, demon pain.
? Prince had chronic pain issues, Vic?

Thanks Vic.
Prince had a sensuality that went deep. I think of some of his songs, like Darling Nikki and Tick Tick Bang.
Prince has spread his message across the globe. To be shared for generations to come. His message of sexuality is like no other!
Oh, HELL YES. Released shortly before I graduated HS. It was a hot song @ Myrtle Beach. I was 17.
Then, Purple Rain came out in late July (the movie).
I liked the movie alright but the soundtrack was much better.
The movie was poorly acted, in general terms. Prince was playing Prince, Morris Day was in-character, Apollonia was a bore (mere eye candy), the band rarely spoke except for Doc’s crack about Wendy’s periods and Wendy acting like the bitch that she is.
Highlights: Bar owner & Prince’s parents. They had some depth.
I saw it at the theaters- summer 1984- 35 years ago? Wow. Haven’t seen it since. Great music- I was entertained. May have to give it one more viewing.
Oh, yeah. A crew of us went to the theatre. A buddy of mine jumped up in the middle of the theatre and screamed “I wanna bite his buttons off!” LMAO! π€£
A memorable evening it was! LOL.
Hm. Sheree. She was insane. I thought my friend Karen was going to pee on herself.
