143. “Is It Something You’ve Got”- Tyrone Davis. Dakar. Soul. Written by Barry Dispinza and Carl Wolfolk. B-Side “”Undying Love.” Tyrone Davis had 15 Hot 100 singles but only 4 made the Top 40. His biggest hit was “Turn Back The Hands Of Time.” #3 1970. He was more of a regular on the R&B charts with 43 hits from 1968-88. “Is It Something You’ve Got” peaked at #34 and spent 7 weeks in the Hot 100. I never heard of Tyrone Davis until today. Grade: C.

144. “Memories”- Elvis Presley. RCA-Victor. Pop. Written by Billy Strange and Mac Davis. B-side “Charro.” Elvis’s first chart hit of 1969- he would eventually have 6 including his last #1 “Suspicious Minds.” Elvis performed this song on his NBC-TV special Elvis in late 1968. Not need to really go over Elvis Presley’s career- he had an incredible 151 Hot 100 singles. “Memories” was a minor hit for The King – #35 and 7 weeks on the chart. Grade: B-.

145. ” First Of May”- Bee Gees. Atco. Pop. Written by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. B-side “Lamplight.” Like Elvis Presley the Bee Gees career is well known- 43 Hot 100 singles with 30 making the Top 40 from 1967-97. The hey-day of their career was the last 60’s and the second half of the 70’s. They had 9 #1’s with 6 of them coming right in a row- 1977-79- “How Deep Is Your Love”, “Stayin’ Alive”, ” Night Fever”, Too Much Heaven”, “Tragedy” and “Love You Inside Out.” “First Of May” reached #37 and spent 7 weeks in the Hot 100. Grade: B.

I don’t think I have seen the movie. It’s too bad he wasn’t given good material- movies- to act in- in general. Especially in the 1960’s.
That was Col. Parker’s doing. Elvis wanted real parts. Parker steered him to the fluff.
Elvis needed to stand up to Parker- should have dumped him. I feel sorry for Elvis. The Beatles had four to absorb the shocks of being The Beatles -Elvis had only Elvis.
