The Sounds of Summer- Day 14 of 95- ‘4th of July”- X. What song to play on the 4th of July? It was an easy pick for me because for many years I make a point to listen to
“4th of July” by X. “4th Of July” was written by Dave Alvin formerly of The Blasters who joined the group for this album and was sung by John Doe and Exene Cervenka. It was released as a single but didn’t make the Hot 100. It should have been a big hit. I saw X about a dozen years ago- the loudest concert I’ve ever been to. They played about everything you’d want to hear- but “4th Of July”- probably because Dave Alvin wrote the song and he wasn’t with them?

They are currently touring- I wish they were coming somewhere nearby- maybe they will add some dates. I think the closest they were- were Louisville.. I didn’t know or forgot Exene was once married to Viggo Mortensen- Aragorn in Lord of the Rings.
