140. ” God Knows I Love You”- Nancy Sinatra. Reprise. Pop. Written by Mac Davis. B-side: Just Being Plain Old Me.” From 1965-69 Nancy Sinatra -daughter of The Chairman of The Board- placed 21 singles into the Hot 100 with 10 reaching the Top 40. She had two #1 hits- 1966 “These Boots Were Made For Walkin'” and 1967- “Something Stupid.” She never had a Hot 100 hit after the age of 29. It couldn’t have been easy with that name Sinatra- certainly it was a little easier for Nancy than it was for her brother being named after the father. A lot to live up to there- like being Julian Lennon. Anyway- “God Knows I Love You” peaked at #97 and was on the charts 3 weeks. Grade: C

141. ” Sweet Cherry Wine”- Tommy James and The Shondells. Roulette. Pop. Written by Richard Grasso. B-side: “Breakaway.” Tommy James and The Shondell’s had 32 Hot 100 hits with 17 making the Top 40 from 1966-81. They had a couple #1’s “Hanky Panky” 1966 and “Crimson and Clover” 1968. To me they were hit and miss-they have some songs I liked some I didn’t but I wasn’t crazy about anything they did. “Sweet Cherry Wine” peaked at #7 and spent 10 weeks in the Hot 100. Grade: B-

142. “The Chokin’ Kind”- Joe Simon. Sound Stage. Soul. Written by Harlan Howard. B-side”Come On And Get It.” Joe Simon had a total of 31 Hot 100 hits but only 9 made the Top 40. His biggest hit would be in 1975 with “Get Down, Get Down {Get On The Floor} #8. “The Chokin’ Kind”- written by country musics legendary songwriter Harlan Howard was a #13 hit for Simon spending 12 weeks on the chart. Simon is now 75- some of his songs have been sampled in this century by other artists. Grade: A
Nancy Sinatra song is a new one for me. It’s a decent song, nothing to write home about. I like Tommy James and The Shondells more than you. You have to admit that’s a cool intro. Joe Simon song pretty good.
I like Nancy Sinatra’s earlier hits better- this so sounds like a song Mac Davis would write.
Nancy…UGH.
Liked Tommy James.
