The Sounds of Summer- Day 8 of 95- “Summer Breeze”- Seals and Crofts. Already into week two of the summer. To me it has always seemed once you hit the 4th of July which is next Thursday believe it or not- summer flies by quickly. The weather here in O-H 10 so far has been for the most part mild. I don’t think we’ve had a 90 degree day yet but I know they are coming. Nothing is as welcome on one of those hot muggy days as a summer breeze if you have to be outside. I am not a big Seals and Crofts fan but this has always been a song that I’ve liked when its been on the radio. I looked it up- “Summer Breeze” was the first Seals and Crofts hit- and was one of their three highest charting singles- “Summer Breeze”, “Diamond Girl” and “Get Closer” all made it to #6. I was surprised to see when “Summer Breeze” entered the charts- I figured this had to be a song that was released in early summer and spent the summer on the charts but no- it was released in August 1972 and entered the Hot 100 on September 9, 1972- as the Summer of ’72 was winding down. Rolling Stone Magazine named “Summer Breeze” #13 on their best songs of summer list.
I don’t know much about Seals & Crofts, but to me this is a perfect summer tune. There’s just something about it that always makes me feel good when listening to it.
Same here- a song that never grows old. A feel good song.
Brings back the memory of simpler times or at least what is remembered as such…
I think that was a song I’d hear on the radio as a kid – I didn’t know who did the song or anything about it other than it seemed to lower the temperature a little on a hot summer day- the song did.
Very poetic, Hans.
