The Sounds of Summer- Day 6 of 95- “Walking On Sunshine”- Katrina and The Waves. While I am not a big fan of sunshine- I am a big fan of this song which would become Katrina and The Waves biggest hit #9 in 1985. The song was on Katrina and The Waves debut album from 1983 but a re-recorded version in 1985 is the one which became a big hit. Written by Katrina and The Waves guitarist Kimberly Rew-it was originally written as a ballad but Katrina decided to sing it as a more upbeat song- a wise choice. This songs publishing rights which were wisely kept by the band- through airplay and advertisements earned the band a mint over the years -we are talking in the first decade of this century over a million each year on average -divided among the band members. Pretty good for one song. I’ve always loved this song an upbeat feel good song. The album is a very good one also although this was the only hit on it.
I love this song, too. It’s upbeat and happy.
This takes me back to my graduation and the 15 hour Cocoa Beach trip a week later…thanks Hans I needed this today.
Just got back from seeing Yesterday- I will wait until you see it before commenting…
Thanks Hans… I had an exciting Friday…got my stone blasted Thursday but they didn’t get all of it. Had to get an ambulance to a hospital yesterday…My left kidney was completely blocked….
Had them taken out this morning…Worse night I ever had in my life….Anyway Hans…I’ll catch up with your posts soon.
I hope you are feeling better–that sounds awful. I was thinking yesterday when you didn’t post something concerning that stone may have been the cause. Get well soon!!!
This song inspired my step-daughter to try to change her name to Sunshine. Why she wanted to be walked on I never understood…
I love Katrina & The Waves. I have that album. I LOVE “Do You Want Crying?”. The quick guitar work is awesome.
Kimberley Rew wrote The Bangles song “Going Down To Liverpool”.
Going Down To Liverpool- a great song.
