The Beatles Cover of the Day- “We Can Work It Out”- Stevie Wonder. The Beatles released “We Can Work It Out” as part of a double A sided single with “Day Tripper” in December 1965 as their Christmas single. The single went to #1 in the United States and in the United Kingdom. This is one of those Lennon-McCartney tunes that both did work on. Over the years many artists have covered “We Can Work It Out”- Deep Purple, The Four Seasons, Judy Collins, Johnny Mathis, Tom Jones, Humble Pie among many others. The favorite version that I have heard- Stevie Wonder’s.
In 1970 Stevie Wonder recorded “We Can Work It Out” for his Signed, Sealed & Delivered album. The song was released as a single in 1971 and went to #13 on the Billboard Hot 100. It would also win Stevie Wonder his 5th Grammy- this one for Best R&B Vocal Performance.
Track 2 on my album of the ‘year’ – nice pick
I love how Stevie makes this song his own.
Love his version.
