1969 Song of the Day- “It’s Getting Better:- Mama Cass. It’s Mother’s Day and the closest song I could find from 1969- why not a Mama Cass hit single.Β First off to dispel the urban legend- Cass Elliott died in 1974 at the age of 32 from heart failure-not from choking on a ham sandwich.
“It’s Getting Better” was written by the great songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. The first recording of the song seems to have been from The Vogues- and also Leonard Nimoy gave it a go and so did several other artists before Mama Cass recorded it. It was recorded for her album “Bubblegum.. Lemonade… and Something For Mama” album- and released as a single where it went to #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 -it did much better in the UK #8. Backing Cass on the song are members of the famous Wrecking Crew-
Not familiar with this one. I have to say the Nimitz version is better than I expected – relatively speaking. I was expecting a William Shatner talking type of thing.
Leonard did a killer version of I Walk The Line!!!
Totally agree! Just checked it out. He does the original proud.
I like Nimoy’s version… I listened to The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins not long ago. He was his own man for sure.
Great singer π΅πΆπ΅
For an actor that sings on the side Nimoy is ok. Don’t ask for more from me tho lol. Cass was only 32 when she passed π¦
