This top 40 has some clunkers but many songs that take me back to my childhood.
I guess every era has their clunkers- some really bad ones on this list but overall a very strong week.
Even some of the clunkers take me back.
I had never heard that Bertha Butt song- -awful!
That is bad…part 1…hopefully there never was a part 2. I don’t remember that one either thankfully.
I bet if we listened to today’s Top 40 we’d have a hard time finding say- 5ive songs we like even a little. Sad but true.
A top forty… 44 years ago that is more relevant to me than today… I do agree. Good or bad songs they had personality and were on the most part different from each other.
I want to be able to like something now…would love to but it’s not there. The odd alternative band I like now would not be in the top 40.
Anything today that is good would not be welcome on Pop radio in 2019.
That is the shame of it…I’ve heard songs I liked underground…or whatever you call it now…but no mainstream success…not dumbed down enough? I don’t know.
Ain’t that the damn truth…
Gotta finda woman gotta finda woman gotta finda woman. What’s wrong with that? lol
I always loved “How Long” by Ace.
Me too- with Paul Carrick on vocals- one of those songs not played to death that you enjoy every time you hear it!
That song, “Chevy Van”, I think it actually had a lot of guys buying vans! At least in my town it did. Interesting story: one of my younger brothers ended up living in NC for awhile, in the town where Sammy Johns lives, and he got to know Sammy. Well, maybe not that interesting 😉
Sammy should have gotten at least 1 percent off of all the van sales in the 70’s.. no doubt that song sold a lot of them.
I’m in NC. What town was that?
Some little town not far from Charlotte. My brother and his (now-ex) owned a bar called The Blue Dog there. This was probably 20 years ago? OK, I just had to look it up: Gastonia. I guess Sammy fell on hard times at the time my brother lived there, and he has since passed away.
Wow. I had no idea.
Gastonia isn’t little anymore. It is now a Charlotte suburb.
Speaking of, in 2015:
I loved Chevy Van, Sister Golden Hair & Wildfire.
The Bertha Butt song, is that the “ain’t gonna bump no more with no big fat woman” song?
yes thats it
Oh, dear GOD. LOL!
Gotta love blabbermouth who kept yelling, “Shoot her! Shoot her!” I’ve never been to Gastonia, but from the looks of it probably wouldn’t want to go. I wonder what put her out of her mind like that?
