- GEORGE HARRISON: ALL THINGS MUST PASS: 1970: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: George’s first album after the break up of The Beatles. In the late 60’s with The Beatles George really grew as a songwriter- but was still being limited to a couple songs an album in general- so he had a double albums worth to release- 18 songs- I don’t count the third album of jams as a part of it- My Sweet Lord was the huge #1 hit and George’s biggest hit- but it is far from being the best song on this strong album. For sure on the Mount Rushmore of Beatles solo albums- I would go as far as saying it is the greatest Beatles solo album ever released.

- QUEEN: A NIGHT AT THE OPERA: 1975: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Their best album- went to #1 in the UK and #4 in the US- Queen had arrived. Bohemian Rhapsody is their signature song- it is hard to believe it reached only #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. The other hit was “You’re My Best Friend #16. Other favorites-Love Of My Life, The Prophet’s Song, and Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon. Their first album named after a Marx Brother movie.

- QUEEN: A DAY AT THE RACES: 1976: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: The second album in a row named for a Marx Brothers movie. Somebody To Love was the only hit #13. Other favorites- Tie Your Mother Down, You Take My Breath Away, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy. The album received mixed reviews- while I don’t think it matches the previous album- I think its pretty good but not without its weak songs.

- QUEEN: NEWS OF THE WORLD: 1977: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Rock critics were mixed on the album at the time of release- they weren’t 1970’s rock critic favorites- We Will Rock You/ We Are The Champions- was all over the radio and in every sports arena in the late 70’s. Spread Your Wings, Fight From The Inside, Sheer Heart Attack other favorites.
My fave on A Night at the Opera is ’39’. Maybe it gets forgotten because it wasn’t a Freddie song.
I’ve never liked Queen one bit, but you simply can’t even try to top ‘All Things Must Pass’
I think All Things Must Pass- has gotten even better with time.
Yes I quite agree
Beware of Darkness gets me every time. Great listening day, Hans ❤
I think that album and some of the songs- as time goes by- grow in statue.
Hans you did right by giving ATMP five out of five stars. Run of the Mill has been on replay lately.
love that album!
In my top five, I gave it 10 out of five, but I’m so biased.
