1969 Song of the day is “What Does It Take {To Win Your Love} by Junior Walker & His All-Stars. Junior Walker & The All-Stars didn’t get the recognition of Tamla-Motown’s big hit acts but they were solid hit makers. “What Does It Take { To Win Your Love} was written by Johnny Bristol, Harvey Fuqua and Vernon Bullock. It would be one of Junior Walker & The All-Stars biggest hits peaking at #4 in the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the US R&B singles chart. The song was voted Top US Soul Record of 1969. Impressive when you consider that Motown didn’t think the song was good enough for a single release. Their quality control team rejected it but radio DJ’s were playing it so they decided to release it as a single. Good thing they did. Junior Walker was a saxophonist and vocalist. I mentioned him a week or so ago for his playing the sax on Foreigner’s “Urgent”- which made that song great. Junior Walker & The All-Stars most famous song would probably be “Shotgun” which went to #4 in 1965 but this single gives it a run for the money.
Love this song!
This song is downright cool! Thanks.
