1969 Song of the Day- Long Black Limousine”- Elvis Presley. Long Black Limousine was written by Vern Stovall and Bobby George back in 1961- the first version to be released was by Stovall- after that Glen Campbell recorded it. O.C. Smith released it as a b-side to Little Green Apples in 1968. The best known version of the song of course is by The King- Elvis Presley which was on his From Elvis In Memphis album in 1969. Who would have even thought back in 1969 that within a decade ofย Elvis singing Long Black Limousine that The King would be dead at 42.
The first time I heard this song, I was reminded of my mother’s funeral in ’78. She loved Elvis and I remember her crying the previous year as both he, and her father, died within months of each other.
A sad song with a catchy beat as only Elvis could deliver it ๐
