1969 Song of the Day is– Give Me Just A Little More Time- by The Chairmen Of The Board. The single which was released on the Invictus Records label went to #3 on the pop chart. The song was written by the famous Motown songwriting group of Holland-Dozier-Holland with Ron Dunbar. Holland, Dozier and Holland had left Motown in 1967 to set up their own label- and due to a lawsuit against them from Motown- the songwriting was credited to Edythe Wayne and Ron Dunbar. The song was sung by The Chairmen Of The Board’s lead singer- General Johnson- that was his given name General Johnson. Motown’s famous and great backing musicians The Funk Brothers played on this recording. This would be The Chairmen Of The Board’s biggest hit- they would have three other Top 40 hits in the early 70’s but this is the big one. Kylie Minogue would cover the song in 1992 and take it to #2 on the UK singles chart.
This was excellent. I’ve never heard it before. But now it’s downloaded to my music library. Thanks!
Glad you liked it. Its one of those songs I will come across once every year or so on the radio and always thought it was a great song.
Yeh, it hooked me.
This isn’t the song I thought it was going to be, but I remember it. I like the passion in the singer’s voice.
Loved this song for ages – especially for the bit at the two minute mark where the strings disappear for a few bars. And when he goes brrrrrrrr!
Grew up shagging to that.
This is one that loops in my head. Fortunately, I like it.
It is always good when that happens! The other way around not too good at all.
