Hans Worst Hits of the 90’s- “Livin’ La Vida Loca.”- Ricky Martin- 1999. This single was #1 in the US for 5 weeks. I didn’t even listen to pop radio by that time but I heard it a million times [ well probably not a million it just seemed like a million} It sold 8 million copies and was nominated for four Grammy Awards. The song was written by Desmond Child and Draco Rosa. La Vida Loca- means ‘ the crazy life.” The only positive thing about this hit is- it helped to bring attention to other Spanish speaking artists- in the US. Other than that I hated this song on first listen. Ricky Martin is still around but has only had two hits in the US since this one. She Bangs one of them- is probably a lot worse than this one but since Livin’ La Vida Loca was the bigger hit- I will go with this. Hard to believe this was 20 years ago.
The first time I heard this, I thought it was a fun one, but then it was literally overplayed to death.
Bingo. The horn section was killer for about 3 days. It managed to wear out its welcome quickly.
I agree with you, runesweed on it being a fun song and that they overplayed it. You gotta admit the video is well-done and Ricky is hot. It’s not a song I’d go out and buy but would probably dance to at the club.
I never got Ricky Martin.
I don’t like pop music but I can admit this is a super catchy song!
Whenever my husband and I are driving and somebody does something incomprehensible in traffic, he starts singing these lyrics. It’s a perfect soundtrack for reckless insanity!!
Never thought of it that way–lol
