1969 Song of the Day is “Homecoming” by Tom T. Hall. Tom T. Hall is a master storyteller- and this is one of his best. The single was a #5 hit on the country charts in 1969. It is the story of a country singer who has been busy on the road but finally finds some time to get back home to see his elderly father. The singer fills his father in on what has been going on in his life- asks about what has been going on back here at home and this is quickly gone- his stay too brief. Tom T. Hall a year earlier made a big splash with a song that he wrote which was covered by Jeannie C. Riley- Harper Valley PTA which went #1 country and pop.
I’m glad to be reminded of this one. It’s very nice.
The song reminds me of a few people I have known over the years who are kind of like the singer is in the song.
