A GREAT ANTI-VALENTINE’S DAY SONG- LOVE STINKS- THE J.GEILS BAND

Today is Valentine’s Day and there are a lot of posts out there of love songs etc- celebrating this day. I thought- what is a great anti-Valentine’s Day type song and immediately Love Stinks by The J. Geils Band came to mind. From their 1980 album of the same name- the single did crack the Top 40- peaking at #38. It was released as a single in April 1980 a little late for Valentine’s Day. I always thought it was The J. Geils Band’s best song and the video- and this was in the early days of MTV- an entertaining video. Was the song influenced by J. Geils Band frontman- Peter Wolf’s divorce a year earlier from actress Faye Dunaway? Like AC/DC’s Highway To Hell- there is no subliminal message here- they come right out and say what they think- Love Stinks.
