1969 Song of the Day is- Lodi- by Creedence Clearwater Revival.  It would have been a full time job in 1969 just keeping up with Creedence Clearwater Revival- they released 3 albums of new material which all went to the Top 10 on the album charts and a bundle of singles- they could have had a greatest hits album on the 1969 singles alone. Lodi which was the b-side of Bad Moon Rising [one of 5 CCR singles which peaked at #2} went to #52- which surprises me since I’ve heard it so many times over the past 50 years. Lodi is a song about a musician who ends up playing in Lodi, California and after playing the local bars doesn’t have enough money to get out of town. Fogerty later admitted that at the time he wrote the song he’d never actually been to Lodi [low-die} but liked the sound of the town’s name. Lodi is on the Green River album.  Fogerty would later say of the song- “On ‘Lodi’, I saw a much older person than I was, ’cause it is sort of a tragic telling. A guy is stuck in a place where people really don’t appreciate him. Since I was at the beginning of a good career, I was hoping that that wouldn’t happen to me.

Lodi is located in California’s Central Valley-in the wine region. In 1970 it had a population of 28,000 today it is over 65,000.
