• DAVID BOWIE: PIN UPS: 1973: 3 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Bowie’s 7th album a covers album. Covering songs by The Who, The Kinks, Pink Floyd, The Yardbirds, Them among others- some of Bowie’s favorite songs from the mid to late 60’s.

• DWIGHT YOAKAM: IF THERE WAS A WAY: 1990: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: 5 Country Top 40 hits on this- Yoakam’s 4th album. Turn It On, Turn It Up, Turn Me Loose #11, You’re The One #5, Nothing’s Changed Here #15, It Only Hurts When I Cry #7 and The Heart That You Own #18. Yoakam at this point was 4 for 4 in his first four albums.

• SHERYL CROW:TUESDAY NIGHT MUSIC CLUB:  1993: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: It wasn’t until the third single on the album- All I Wanna Do- that this album would take off. That song would win the Grammy for Record of the Year. The album would go on to sell 7 million copies. Great pop-rock album- and a great start to a career. Included in the 1001 albums to hear list.

• DAVID BOWIE: DIAMOND DOGS: 1974: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: an album themed somewhat on George Orwell’s 1984- this would be Bowie’s farewell to glam and Ziggy would be put to rest. The album received mixed reviews- my favorites on it- Diamond Dogs, Candidate, Rebel Rebel, 1984.

• ELVIS COSTELLO: WHEN I WAS CRUEL: 2002: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: EC returns to rock after a three album detour into easy listening-  with The Imposters- basically The Attractions with a new bass player. His best album since 1994’s Brutal Youth. 45, 15 Petals, Tear Off Your Own Head are favorites.
