The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is- Citadel. Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards- Citadel is the second song on Their Satanic Majesties Request album. In the chorus of this song it refers to a Candy- which is thought to be transgender actress Candy Darling who was part of the Andy Warhol scene. The Rolling Stones had met her around this time in New York. Candy Darling would die of lymphoma in 1974 at the age of 29.

The opening track on the album “Sing This All Together” runs right into “Citadel” without a break. All the songs on Their Satanic Majesties Request -do this. The highlights on this song is Keith’s guitar riff, Charlie’s drums and Brian Jones on mellotron. Mick does a good job on this also- one of the albums better songs.

  1. How about that opening guitar! I do like this track a lot…unlike most of Satanic majesties, which for me is one of their worst offerings. Candy Darling was mentioned a few times in Patti Smith’s Memoir
