The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is– Sittin’ On A Fence. Sittin’ On A Fence- written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards although it is suspected it was written by Keith- is on the Stones complication album Flowers which was released in June 1967. The song had been recorded back in December 1965. For the most part the song is about not being able to make decisions but it does manage to make a swipe at women- the common theme in a lot of The Stones lyrics at the time- with the line ” But there is one thing I could never understand, some of the sick things a girl does to a man.” Got to feel sorry for these innocent boys…
The song may not have been released at the time because it wasn’t in the blues type style at the time- and they had released similar styled songs like As Tears Go By- and Lady Jane -maybe they didn’t want to overdue it. It is a very good song- especially musically.
If I have a favorite Stones song these days, this is it. When it comes up in my playlist, I have to hit repeat at least once.
The guitar sounds as close to Spanish guitar as it can be without being Spanish guitar. Very enjoyable little tune.
Always loved this track – pairs up with factory girl in feel for me. Sounds like it would be post-gram parsons….you can hear the country but I think Keith met Gram after this….hmmm
Cozy Stones title from the mid-60s, someone is sitting on a fence and looking around – that’s how I picture the song.
