Hans Worst Hits of the 70’s- “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” by Kiss. I am not a fan of Kiss in the first place- but a few of their songs are tolerable. I have always thought of them as 955 make up- 5 % musical ability. Again they had a few singles which were ok- Shout It Out Loud, Detroit Rock City, Rock And Roll All Nite, Christine Sixteen- not great but if they were on the radio I didnt change the station. In 1979 Kiss jumped on the slowing Disco bandwagon with this song- I Was Made For Lovin’ You. I never paid much mind to Kiss but am a little surprised in looking them up- that they had so few hits. They had 9 Top 40 hits- the best charting being the ballad Beth which peaked at #7. I Was Made For Lovin’ You was their second most successful at #11. The thing that sticks out to me about this single is two things- of course the disco style which doesn’t sound right coming from this band and the weak sounding vocals by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. Both Ace Frehley and Gene Simmons has said that I Was Made For Lovin’ You- is their least favorite Kiss song. I will give credit to the group- for their marketing techniques- they were able to tap into an audience and keep their attention for a number of years and make millions of dollars while doing it. When discussing Kiss though- few people are going to talk about the great music they made. Face paint and elaborate concerts- they gave their loyal following a show- [since they couldn’t deliver on good music.}
Erm… yep
I’ve never liked KISS, and am bewildered at their immense popularity that still endures to this day. Several bloggers I follow continue to write about them, which boggles my mind! I have always considered them a novelty act who make mediocre rock music.
The best shock rocker- Alice Cooper! Good show and good music.
As a kid, I didn’t get it…I didn’t like them…always thought I was missing something…later on…I found out my first instincts were right.
We weren’t missing a thing!!
Hans, you nailed it here, it was about the show, and Simmons mask is like Japanese Kabuki theater, so there ya go, American Kabuki…
I wasn’t much of a KISS fan, either but, I did like this song. I like the guitar grinding sound in the background.
