1960 Song of the Day- Galveston by Glen Campbell. Galveston is one of three Jimmy Webb songs that Glen Campbell had great success with in the last 60’s- [Campbell also had success over the years with other Webb written songs} By The Time I Get To Phoenix, Wichita Lineman and Galveston. I have a playlist on my IPOD with just these three songs on it which I will listen to regularly. The single of Galveston by Glen Campbell topped the country singles charts and went to #4 on the Billboard Pop Hot 100. CTM listed Galveston as one of the Top 10 country songs ever.
The song was originally performed by Don Ho of all people. Ho released it as a b-side to his single “Has Anybody Lost A Love?” Ho introduced it to Campbell when he appeared on Campbell’s Good Time Hour television show. Webb wrote the song as an anti-war protest song. The subject in the song is waiting for battle and thinking of the woman he loves in Galveston. Webb described the song as ‘being about a guy caught up in something he doesn’t understand and would rather be somewhere else.’ Webb wrote the song while on the beach in Galveston- and the song was set in the Spanish-American War.
What a poor title for the b side.

Wichita Lineman is my favorite! one of my favorite lines in any song ” and I need you more than want you- and i want you for all time.”
