  1. I’ve just looked at the UK chart for the same time. So different. A few Christmas hangovers but some of the songs there I still play (but not the no 1 – New Seekers). There’s Golden Earring, Roxy Music, Bowie and the Simon Park Orchestra (ok, that one is a guilty pleasure).

    • It seems like every Top 40 1970-75 has Donny Osmond or the Brothers on it… this version of Elvis’ Are You Lonesome Tonight- is laughable! I could get a weeks worth of Worst Hits- just from this particular week I think.

    • I did a double take when I looked at it. Yes you could no doubt. It is nice seeing Ringo get number 1 but a poor choice…well I guess it wasn’t a poor choice but you get what I’m saying.
Now I need to go and listen to the Elvis version you are talking about.

    • Also-listening to this this morning- another song Ringo could pull off- I could hear him singing Spiders and Snakes….. off topic what do you think about the Dodgers signing of Pollock?

    • Yes he could have done Spider and Snakes…You could have been Ringo’s song selector.
The guy killed the Dodgers with the DBacks and he is very profesional…if he can stay on the field…I think he will be god. High Risk Reward in some ways. I’m starting to get what they are doing. It was reported that someone in the Red Sox organization saying how surprised they were about some Dodger hitters who could not adjust…Pitchers would pitch the same thing and get them out….Puig, Kemp and a few others. Pollock is consistent and that is what they need. Puig, Kemp and Grandal are streaky hitters….sorry for the novel

    • I have a feeling that Joc Pederson will go next to get more prospects to trade for J. T. Realmuto. I think they will be more consistent.

    • Although they have gone to the WS two seasons in a row- it was clear that some chairs needed reshuffling on the Dodgers deck. I’d think they will be the favorites for another trip to the series. At least one paper. And you may be right- the moves may not be over.

    • They did need a change… What makes me happy is they are not buying superstars…that hardly ever works. They are spreading it out in above average players and relying on depth.

    • You know that is odd isn’t it. Great artists but not their greatest work. It must have been the year 1974- is all I can figure.

  2. While I definitely recall much more compelling top 40 lists you previously posted, with gems like “Time In A Bottle”, “Living For The City” and “Midnight Rider,” I’d still take this list in a heartbeat over today’s top 40 – admittedly, that comparison is a very low bar!

    • Yes I agree- for the times it was a weak year- 1974 the worst of that era but it would be great when compared to recent times.

  3. Aww, a “D” for “Love’s Theme”? That’s one of my favorite songs from that year. And I’m honestly surprised you gave the Carpenters’ “Top of the World” an “A”. I was a huge fan of The Carpenters, at least in their earlier years, but I would think you’d dislike that song as too pop or sappy. I agree on your high scores for “Show and Tell”, “Until You Come Back to Me”, “Living For the City” and “Hello, It’s Me”.
