The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is- She Smiled Sweetly. Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards it is on Between The Buttons. Did Mick actually write this song? After such songs as Stupid Girl and Under My Thumb? Was this song about his new girl at the time the Marianne Faithfull? Mick would later say the song was originally ‘He Smiled Sweetly” but he changed it when manager/ producer Andrew Loog Oldham suggested it. Either way- it does make Rolling Stones history as the first Stones song without a guitar to be heard. Keith is on the song though- playing organ and bass. The song fits in well with the musical diversity of Between The Buttons.  In recent years She Smiled Sweetly has been covered by both Billy Bragg and Lindsay Buckingham.

    • Oh yes absolutely. Man this is a good album. Love that track. I wonder how active Brian Jones was on this album? Was he adding the secret sauce? The album seem to stand alone in some ways in terms of the song structure, production and performance…

    • While they went on to make some great rock albums in the next decade- I miss the sounds on this album- some of the instruments Brian was playing on this- and the Aftermath period.
