The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is Goin’ Home. Goin’ Home is the final song on side 1 of Aftermath. The thing that immediately catches your attention is the length of the song- it clocks in at 11:13. In 1966 this was unusual for a rock song. Dylan got away with it on Blonde On Blonde with an entire side devoted to one song- ” Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands” which is 11:22. The Rolling Stones song doesn’t tell a story like the Dylan song does- [it is the longest Stones song ever} it is a blues inspired jam. It was a 2 and a half minute song in which they just kept the tape rolling- with Keith on guitar, Brian on harp, Bill on bass, Charlie on the drums, Ian Stewart on piano and Jack Nitzsche on tambourine and maracas. This song has taken me a long time to really like but I think it has finally won me over.
good one
