The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is You Can’t Catch Me- another Chuck Berry cover- this appears on The Rolling Stones second album cleverly titled -The Rolling Stones No. 2. Chuck Berry released You Can’t Catch Me as an a-side- with Havana Moon the b-side in May 1955. It didn’t make the charts. The Rolling Stones a dozen years later they recorded it for their second album. Another Chuck Berry cover- The Stones covering Chuck Berry as often as they did in the early years made a lot of sense they were big fans. Keith has called their version of You Can’t Catch Me his favorite song on the second album. I like Chuck’s original a lot better. John Lennon would get into some trouble when in Come Together was inspired by a line in You Can’t Catch Me-and was sued by Chuck Berry’s music publisher Morris Levy . Lennon settled the suit by agreeing to cover a dozen songs from Levy’s catalog.
Chuck’s version is a lot smoother.
Though I’m a massive Stones fan, especially of their early stuff, Chuck nails it for sure.
Agree re liking Chuck version better. Listening to this now I am reminded of Springsteen’s Open All night off of Nebraska. Some of the imagery are a Straight shot from this song. Never realized that before.
