
It was fifty years ago this week-at the Mexico City Olympic Games- in the women’s swimming competition the American women dominated. There were 11 different medal events in women’s swimming and the American’s won 8 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze. Debbie Meyer led the way with three gold medals in the 200, 400 and 800 metre freestyle, Claudia Kolb had 2 gold medals in the 200 and 400 metre medleys, Jan Henne won the 100 metre freestyle, Kaye Hall the 100 metre backstroke, Lillian Watson the 200 metre backstroke, Sharon Wickman the 200 metre breaststroke and Team USA won the 4 X100 freestyle and 4X100 medley relays.
