It was fifty years ago today- October 17, 1968 the movie Bullitt starring the King of Cool- Steve McQueen premiered at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. This action film also starring Robert Vaughn and Jacqueline Bisset is famous for its car chase scene through the streets of San Francisco. The movie was directed by Peter Yates. The movie was very popular- it brought it from the box office 42.3 million dollars- it cost 4 million dollars to make.

Loved, loved Bulitt!
Apparantly in 2007, Bullitt was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
Deservedly so.
I agree well deserved. The Turner movie channel plays this on a regular basis and I will watch it every year or so.
I’m so old I saw this in the theater when it came out. A great classic film.
That would have been great to see in a theater!
I’ve never met a Steve McQueen movie I didn’t like.
I agree if he was in it- I would watch it. Have you seen the documentary on his making Le Mans? Pretty interesting.
No I haven’t. I’m sure either the library or netflix should have it. Will check it out. My favorite movies of his is The Sand Pebbles.
I don’t know if you get HBO but I am thinking it was on there.. his son directed the documentary.
unfortunately no cable tv at all 😦 i get netflix through streaming via satellite internet and that is very limited (20gb/month).
You may be better off that way- sometimes I wonder why I have cable I don’t watch all that much of it.
He was one in a million!!
There is no one today like that in the movies that is for sure.
Tom Cruise does his own stunts, even at his age, so I think he comes close.
I love that car chase.
