American Icon- Johnny Cash passed away 15 years ago today at the age of seventy-one. Johnny Cash to me seemed like one of those larger than life figures. From his beginnings with Sam Phillips at Sun to the end with Rick Ruben at American Recordings- a fascinating career that had many ups and a few downs but was always interesting. I am not a fan of music videos in general but one of the best was the Johnny Cash video of Trent Reznor’s “Hurt” – not the first song that Johnny took and made his own. Great version of the song and a moving video.

That video with that song is so strong.
Even though country music generally isn’t my cup of tea, there was something very compelling and charismatic about Johnny Cash. That video almost brought me to tears – powerful stuff!
An American Icon- I knew he was in bad shape in his later years but he was one of those people I just couldn’t imagine not being alive. He was bigger than music. I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t like Johnny Cash. A part of American history!
To me Cash was the ultimate country star!
Johnny would be one of my favorite country performers but not my favorite but I would agree he was the ultimate country star. He was bigger than music- everyone knew who Johnny Cash was.
My god, has it really been 15 years?
I remember where I was when I heard it- like it was yesterday. 15 years I hope the next 15 go a little slower.
