Forty-eight years ago today..

Neil Young wrote “Ohio” shortly after the massacre after seeing pictures in Life Magazine. The song was recorded on May 21st and released in June 1970. Young has said that what happened at Kent State was ‘probably the biggest lesson ever learned at an American place of learning.” Nearly 50 years later Neil Young is still at it- releasing timely albums on the issues of the day.
Really captured the fear, disillusionment and trauma of that time.
It’s almost as if nothing is shocking enough these days for a great protest song like this to be written.
I hadn’t thought about that but- very true.
