On this date in 1989 Ringo Starr began his first tour since the break-up of The Beatles nearly two decades earlier. Ringo would build his first “Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band” -the names may have changed over the years but the concept of Ringo and His All-Star Band”- continues- over the years there have been twelve different versions of the band.
Who was in his first All-Starr Band? His future brother-in-law Joe Walsh, Nils Lofgren, Dr. John, Billy Preston, Rick Danko and Levon Helm of The Band, the Big Man-Clarence Clemons, and drummer Jim Keltner.
The shows have Ringo singing some of his famous Beatles songs and solo songs and his band members doing a couple of their big songs. I saw the tour in its second incarnation in 1992. It was an entertaining show. I know they are out touring again this fall- don’t think they will be anywhere close or I’d go see Ringo one more time.
The number of different band members over the years joining Ringo on his tour- goes to show what a well loved figure Ringo is among his fellow musicians. Ringo is now seventy-seven and still going strong.
I saw Ringo and his band last summer. It was awesome.
This band is a great idea. I’ll be seeing them later this year.
The most interesting part is how the members in this band continually change. Ringo shares the stage with others very well.
