On this date- July 9, 2011 Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter collected his 3000th career hit- hitting a home run off of Tampa Bay’s David Price in the third inning. Jeter became the 28th player in MLB history to reach 3000 hits. Jeter became the first Yankee to ever reach 3000 hits and the first player to ever reach #3000 at Yankee Stadium.
30 players have now reached the 3000 mark- and only 3 of those players -Jeter, Wade Boggs and Alex Rodriguez reached #3000 with a home run. Jeter [who is by the way not only Quinn Maddux’s all time favorite baseball player- but all time favorite athlete- I can’t believe he didn’t post on this today } ended his career in 2014 with 3465 career hits and a lifetime average of .310.
Somehow I didn’t know that Jeter was the first Yankee to 3,000. That honestly surprises me.
With all the great Yankees you’d think it would have happened but Gehrig’s career/ life ended early, DiMaggio was nagged by injuries late in his career and didn’t do it.. Ruth and Mantle walked a lot…
Mmm… true. Those would’ve been your best bets, right there.
