Beatle Paul McCartney on this day in 1966 bought a farmhouse in Scotland, near the Mull of Kintyre. In 1978 his song about his love for this area- became a huge smash, it became a Christmas #1 in Britain and the first single to ever sell 2 million copies in the UK. Overall it was #1 for 9 weeks. It wasn’t a hit in the US- where the b-side “Girls School” was played more and reached #33.
