Last night my U2 fanatic friend and I went to Heinz Field to see U2 again. The Joshua Tree is one of my all time favorite albums so I thought I’d venture out [we are also going to see them on July 1st in Cleveland.} We were in the standing room about 25 yards from the stage. U2 put on a great show- I am attaching a review from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Scott Mervis.
U2 didn’t disappoint but maybe I am getting old or maybe I am just getting to the point where I am not enjoying being around big crowds. Not that I have ever enjoyed big crowds but I used to be able to handle it better. We were pretty close to the stage but it was still hard to see at times. I am 6’1″ so its not like some tall guy was blocking my view- it was people reaching up and holding their phones to ‘capture the moment” and as my friend said- we have gone to a number of concerts over the years and he hit it on the head when he said “No matter where we are the biggest jerk in the audience seems to find his way to right in front of us.” Even when we moved yards away from him, he still somehow managed to be right in front of us a minute later. We had to deal with that guy again last night. I don’t know how many people were there, I don’t think it was a sell out but I’d guess 50,000? Too many people. After the U2 show in Cleveland I think that is my last big venue concert. If the venue is bigger than a theater type situation-count me out- no more arenas or stadiums.

Ignore my previous comment. Glad it was a good show. Like you I don’t like megadome shows. Anything above about 3000 and I get to feel annoyed I’ve got to watch the concert through a big screen.
