Goal is to listen to 1500 different albums in a 12 month period.
TODAY- Listened to 5 different albums. Total for 51 days is 315. On pace for 2254.
- THE RAMONES: PLEASANT DREAMS: 1981: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS.
- THE RAMONES: SUBTERRANEAN JUNGLE: 1983: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. More good stuff from The Ramones- Doesn’t reach the heights of their first four but they’d never reach that level again.
- TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS: 1982: LONG AFTER DARK: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. Kind of a forgotten Petty album. “You Got Lucky” was the hit from it.
- JOHN STEWART: CALIFORNIA BLOODLINES: 1969: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. Made in Nashville in the same studio with that same musicians that worked with Dylan on “Nashville Skyline”- this one is better. It used to pop up on the top albums ever lists- but I haven’t seen it mentioned in years.
- THE ROLLING STONES: GOATS HEAD SOUP: 1973: 3 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. The Stones golden age has ended. “Angie” went to #1 and so did the album but it was more like they had an established brand this album is sub-par compared with earlier efforts. Only a few memorable songs.
Long After Dark has ‘Straight Into Darkness’, which is pretty much his most loved album cut, right?
That is a great album cut for sure.
Totally agree on “Goats Head Soap”. It’s not bad, but they were definitely trading on past glories.
I guess to be fair -coming up with albums the quality of those four classic albums- isn’t easy. They had been riding such a hot streak, its not like it could go on forever.
