Joni Sledge of Sister Sledge has died at age 60. She was one of four sisters who made up Sister Sledge who during the disco era had several big hits in 1979- “He’s The Greatest Dancer” reached #12 and “We Are Family” #2. Being a Pittsburgh Pirate fan, Sister Sledge means one thing- the 1979 Pirates theme song. The leader of the Pirates Willie Stargell adopted the song during the summer of ’79 for the Pirates and it was played endlessly in that summer and fall. Hearing that song always brings back great memories.
That’s sad to hear. As a fan of most of the stuff produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards I was a big fan of the “We Are Family” album.
