Thornbury Bailey Brown a Union private was shot and killed on May 22,1861 at Grafton, West Virginia. Brown became the first Union soldier to die at the hands of a Confederate. He is buried at the National Cemetery in the town of Grafton, Taylor County, West Virginia. He was 32 years old, married with 7 children. You have to wonder what in the world he was doing in the Union Army.

I agree – with 7 children? Can’t imagine how his wife and kids survived (if they did).
