Major League Baseball had the first round of its amateur draft last night. The baseball draft is different from football. Drafting successfully is a lot more difficult. A number of the players taken in round 1 will never see the majors. In the baseball draft you shouldn’t draft for a need but take the best available player and hope he develops for you. My Pirates took two high school players and outfielder and a catcher. At best these young men are 4-5 years away from the majors if everything goes well. Time will tell.
