The Beatles Song Of The Day is “Getting Better.” “Getting Better ” is the 4th song on side 1 of The Beatles “Sgt.Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ album. One afternoon Paul McCartney was walking around Primrose Hill with his dog Martha and author Hunter Davies. It was the first nice day in the spring and Paul remarked “It’s getting better.” Paul also remembered when Ringo was out for a while on tour in 1964 and Jimmy Nicol replaced him, after the concerts they would ask him how he was doing and Nicol would always reply ‘It’s getting better.” After getting back from the walk Paul was singing the phrase over and over and working on it with his guitar. Later that evening John Lennon stopped by and they started working on the song. This is a great example of John and Paul working together on a song. You get Paul’s optimism and John’s more negative view “Couldn’t get much worse” and John also wrote in the song about his aggressive tendencies leaning towards violence. John Lennon: backing vocal and lead guitar/ Paul McCartney: double-tracked vocal and bass guitar/ George Harrison: backing vocal, lead guitar and tambura/ Ringo Starr: drums and congas/ George Martin: piano. The song was recorded on March 9th, 10th, 21st and 23rd, 1967 at Abbey Road. Producer: George Martin.
