Since Joe DiMaggio passed away a dozen years ago Willie Mays has generally been anknowledged as being the greatest living player. I think its a toss up between Mays and Henry Aaron. Mays was certainly one of the most exciting players to ever play the game. I wish I had seen him in his prime. I only saw the declining years when Mays became greatest example ever of a player holding on too long.
The Great Willie Mays turns 82 today. He was a great five tool player. He could do it all. 660 home runs which is third on the all-time list of legitimate players, 1903 RBI’s a career batting average of .302. Mays was a 24 time All-Star and a 12 time Gold Glover.
