Solid number at 2.

This is a controversial pick here, but only one really matters – Secretariat.
Secretariat – was probably the best known racehorse in the world – ridden mainly by Ron Turcotte, ‘Big Red’ easily won the 1973 Triple Crown.
He won the Triple Crown by running the fastest Belmont Race – no other horse has run 2:24 over a mile and a half on dirt.
Only ‘athlete’ to appear on the cover of Time, Newsweek, and Sports Illustrated at the same time.

the commentary around the 3:04 mark of this video is telling – yes that record still stands 40 years later – and it may never be broken.
i cannot tell from the video, but i remember reading that Turcotte said he never put the crop to Secretariat in this race at all – and he was merely a passenger, this was all Big Red.

Thanks for posting these three races–they gave me goosebumps! Secretariat was one in a million!
have to admit Hans and i had the exact same conversation. this was just spine tingling.
