On this day 100 years ago- the Woolworth Building in New York City was opened, it was one of the world’s first skyscrapers. 100 years later it is still one of the fifty tallest buildings in the United States and one of the twentieth tallest buildings in New York City. The building was designed by Cass Gilbert who also designed the U.S.Supreme Court Building and the West Virginia State Capitol Building. The Woolworth Building has been a National Historic Landmark since 1966.
