Richie Havens has died today after suffering a heart attack. To me Richie Havens who was the opener at Woodstock in 1969 -stole the show. He played for nearly 3 hours because other performers were delayed in getting there. When I think of the music at Woodstock my first thought is Richie Havens singing “Freedom.”

A friend of mine promoted a Richie Havens concert once and he had nothing but wonderful things to say about Richie Havens as a person.
