The Cure’s Singer-Songwriter-Guitarist-Robert Smith 54 Today

Robert Smith of The Cure turns 54 today. Smith is the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist and only consistent member of The Cure since they started in 1976. NY Rock describes Smith as ‘pop culture’s unkempt poster child of doom and gloom” and asserts that some of his songs are a ‘somber introspection over lush, brooding guitars. Robert Smith has a unique stage look-with his teased hair and smudged make-up. I was a fan of the group back in the 1980’s. They have put out 13 albums since their first one in 1979. About every four years you can expect a new album from The Cure. They have had 3 Top 40 hits in the United States- “Just Like Heaven” #40 in 1987, “Love Song” #2 in 1989 and “Friday I’m In Love” #18 in 1992.
