The Greatest Athlete To Wear #20 is Barry Sanders.
Notable #20’s- Barry Sanders gets the slight nod as the best #20 over two great baseball immortals-Frank Robinson and Mike Schmidt. Other baseball #20’s Lou Brock was the stolen base king until Rickey Henderson came along. Don Sutton pitched in the major leagues for 23 years and won over 300 games, he’s in the Hall of Fame. Pie Traynor was one of the great third baseman in the first half of the 20th century for the Pirates. Frank White was an underrated second baseman for the Royals in the 1970’s and 80’s. Jorge Posada was a fine catcher for the Yankees during their dynasty of the late 1990’s early 2000’s.
In football- Lem Barney was an exciting defensive back for the Lions, Barney is in the Hall of Fame. Cliff Battles was a star for Boston in the 1930s. Gino Cappelletti was a star for the AFL Boston Patriots. Lemar Parrish was one of the best cornerbacks in the 70’s for the Bengals. Mel Renfro of the Cowboys was a Hall of Fame defensive back.
in basketball- Gary Payton played 13 years at a high level. He will be in the Hall of Fame this coming year. In hockey Luc Robitaille was a big scoring left winger with over 600 goals.
The Greatest Athlete To Wear #20 is Barry Sanders. Barry Sanders is the greatest running back I’ve ever seen. He was a game breaker. You may stop him a few times but he could break any run for the long touchdown. He retired at the top of his game. He would have broken all the rushing records had he played a couple more years. It is too bad that Sanders had to play his career with the Detroit Lions. Sanders is in my estimation the second greatest running back in NFL history…miles behind the great Jim Brown who is in a league of his own.

I’ve been enjoying the # series – #19 is going to be tough to choose one!
