The Greatest Athlete To Wear #21 {Roberto Clemente}

The Greatest Athlete To Wear #21 is “The Great One” Roberto Clemente.

Notable #21’s- in baseball- Curt Flood was an outstanding center fielder for the Cardinals in the 1960’s. When they traded him to the Phillies that is when he became one of the most important figures in baseball history. Warren Spahn is one of the greatest left handed pitchers of all times. Paul O’Neill was a fine outfielder with the Reds and those great Yankee teams of the 1990’s. Bob Lemon was a Hall of Fame pitcher in the 1950s.

In basketball- Tim Duncan is one of the most underrated players in recent basketball history. When they talk about the best since Jordan and they don’t mention Tim Duncan they are wrong. Not a headline grabber like your James or Bryant. Dominique Wilkins was a highlight machine back in the 1980’s and 90s. Bill Sharman for the old Celtics was one of the great free-throw shooters ever. Jerry Lucas was a Hall of Famer who was also part of the greatest true Olympic team ever the 1960 team with Jerry West and The Big O Oscar Robertson. Dave Bing was a Hall of Fame guard for the Pistons. Today he is the Mayor of Detroit. Kevin Garnett led the Celtics to their first title in a couple decades a few years ago.

In hockey Peter Forsberg was one of the best players in hockey a decade ago.Stan Mikita was a great player in the 60’s for the Blackhawks. In football-LaDainian Tomlinson is one of the great running backs in the history of football. John Hadl- a fine quarterback who stuck out because he wore an odd number for a QB. Deion Sanders was never a favourite of mine but he was one of the great cornerbacks -return men in the history of football.

The Greatest Athlete To Wear #21 is Roberto Clemente. I grew up a Pirates fan and with Roberto in right field. I can still remember going to ballgames and not being able to keep my eyes off of him. He was one of the greatest players I’ve ever seen but he was the #1 most exciting player I’ve ever seen play. What a great arm he had. Best defensive right fielder I’ve ever seen, best arm. He was a great battling average hitter. Clemente of course died tragically delivering supplies to earthquake torn Nicaragua. When you say #21 it’s got to be Clemente.
