Junior Samples- Of “Hee Haw” Fame-Born This Day 1926

Junior Samples was born on this day in 1926. Junior Samples is best remembered as a comedian on the tv show “Hee Haw.” Junior Samples was on “Hee Haw” for 14 years. Junior was a sixth grade drop out, who was a stock car driver and a carpenter. When he was 40 he went on the radio and told the story of catching the largest fish ever seen in his hometown. The recording of his story became a hit novelty record. In 1969 he was asked to be part of the new show “Hee Haw.”

Junior’s most famous bit was as a used car salesman. The phone number he would give to call was “BR-549.” I remember seeing a lot more episodes of “Hee Haw” than I would care to admit. I spent a lot of weekends at my grandparents and my grandfather always watched “Hee Haw” at 7pm on Saturday nights. I was a big fan of Buck Owens so that was alright with me.

Junior Samples died at the age of 57 of a heart attack in 1983.
