On this day in 1896 the first modern Olympic Games opened, 1500 years after the original games were banned by Roman Emperor Theodosius I. The first modern games was nothing like the Olympics of today. The 1896 games lasted from April 6-15th,1896 with 14 nations participating, 241 athletes in 9 sports and 43 events.
