Actor Marlon Brando who was perhaps pound for pound the finest American actor of the 20th century was born on this day in 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska. Brando would be nominated for 8 Oscars, winning 2. His wins were for 1954’s “On The Waterfront” and 1972’s “The Godfather.” The great director Marty Scorsese said of him “He’s the marker. There’s ‘before Brando” and “after Brando.” Jack Nicholson once said “When Marlon dies everybody moves up one.” Some of Brando’s greatest movies- “On The Waterfront”, “A Streetcar Named Desire”, “Viva Zapata!”, “The Wild One”, “Sayonara”, “The Godfather”, “Last Tango In Paris”, “Apocalypse Now” and “A Dry White Season.’ Marlon Brando died at the age of 80 in 2004.
