Gone is talk of the ‘Dream Team’. Gone is Andy Reid. In comes Chip Kelly who ran the uptempo “Blur” offense while at Oregon. I like Chip Kelly, and I do hope that he has success at the NFL level, I am afraid that he will probably not fare much better than the last coaching guru that came into the NFC East wearing a visor – that being Steve Superior, er I mean Steve Spurrier. I think that Kelly inherits an ownership group that definitely wants to win, will spend money to win, only will not spend it wisely, and will continue to meddle in the affairs of the team daily. Wait – I just described 3 of the 4 teams in the NFC East. And I am sure that it is just a coincidence that the one team that has an ownership group that lets the coach do his job, is the one franchise that has won two Super Bowls in recent years. AMAZING.
The Eagles had problems holding onto the ball last season, and were a good offensive team between the 20’s. Red zone scoring was an issue as was the defense. Kelly’s offense is designed to create mismatches and wear down the defenses. I do not think at this point Kelly has his prototype quarterback on his roster to run his offense, but I think we will see Vick and Foles competing. Cannot count out Dennis Dixon at this point, because he ran this offense for Kelly at Oregon a few years back.
The Eagles have been active in the free agent market and have filled a few holes, but I see the Eagles going on the defensive side of the ball and selecting a player that Kelly is familiar with, who is also familiar with the read option and moves well.
With the fourth pick the Philadelphia Eagles select Dion Jordan, OLB Oregon. 6’6″ 248 4.60 in the 40.
